I'd love to dive into what's going on with my little man, but I just don't know. The hitting, the fighting, the biting, the kicking, the spitting, the back talking... And he's on Ritalin. It's not working, and I'm so worried about my little guy. He's about to get kicked out of his summer camp, and we're doing everything we can think of to figure this out. he's only 5!!!
Hi there "lost". Your story sounds so much like my own. Our son is now 7 1/2 but at 5 he was exactly the way that your son is. He was also taking ritalin and it wasn't working either. We then tried concerta, which is basically like a 12 hour version of ritalin and it wasn't the answer either. We then went to strattera, and although it was a hellish 4-6 weeks of waiting (it takes that long to take effect), he has done MUCH better on it! By no means is our life now "perfect" with our son, but it doesn't look the way it did (the way that you describe your son as being). The strattera, combined with really rigid structures in his routine and so on, have made him a much more manageable, and HAPPY, little boy. Hope this helps :)
